The Minds Ahead Team Made Time to Talk

On Time to Talk Day, the Minds Ahead team came together online to make #TimetoTalk! This annual initiative, led by Mind and Rethink Mental Illness in England in partnership with Co-op, aims to get people across the UK talking about mental health. The campaign is supported by SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health) in Scotland, Inspire in Northern Ireland, and Time to Change Wales, uniting communities, schools, homes, workplaces, and online spaces in crucial conversations about mental wellbeing.

Mental health conversations matter because they help break down stigma and create supportive communities where people feel safe to share their struggles. During a recent team discussion, we explored the power of simply checking in with one another. A simple “How are you feeling?” or “How are you coping?” can make a real difference in someone’s ability to seek support and improve their well-being.

We also reflected on how culture and upbringing shape our willingness to talk about mental health. With our diverse backgrounds, ages, and life experiences, we each bring unique perspectives. By acknowledging these differences, we can foster even more meaningful conversations and create an environment where everyone feels heard and supported.

As part of the event, new insights from a recent Censuswide poll (5,012 UK respondents) revealed that nearly two-thirds of people put on a brave face to avoid discussing their mental health. Nearly half of respondents admitted they are hesitant to open up for fear of worrying others—especially during difficult times. These statistics highlight why initiatives like Time to Talk Day are so important. Open, honest conversations are the first step toward better mental health for everyone.

At Minds Ahead, we are passionate about advocating for education professionals who are on the frontlines, supporting the increasing number of children and young people in need of mental health support. Our mission is to create a future where all schools are inclusive communities where both pupils and staff can thrive because mental health is prioritised, supported, and talked about—today and for generations to come.

Let’s keep the conversation going. Take a moment today to check in on someone—because talking really does make a difference.
