Case Study: Bloom

Client: Mental Health UK.
Audience: Young people aged 14–18.
Reach: UK-wide (England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland).

Bloom is a resilience programme co-designed and written by Minds Ahead, helping young people aged 14–18 to build essential skills as they navigate key transition points—moving through school, into employment, and on to university.

Minds Ahead:

  • Developed the full programme structure, content, and teacher guides.
  • Ensured delivery across all four nations of the UK.
  • Led an iterative development process incorporating wide-ranging focus group feedback.
  • Managed piloting to support full rollout across all of the UK’s nations.

  • Designed and implemented the DfE Quality Assurance Framework for all Senior Mental Health Lead Training in England, in partnership with Leeds Beckett University.
  • Assessed, moderated and provided feedback and reports on hundreds of training courses for the list of DfE-approved Senior Mental Health Lead courses.

Case Study: DfE Quality Assurance for Senior Mental Health Lead Training

Client: Department for Education (DfE), in partnership with Leeds Beckett University.
Focus: National quality assurance for Senior Mental Health Leadership training.
Reach: England-wide.Minds Ahead played a central role in designing and delivering the DfE Quality Assurance Framework for Senior Mental Health Lead (SMHL) training in schools across England.

Working in partnership with Leeds Beckett University, Minds Ahead:

  • Co-developed the national QA framework used to evaluate all SMHL training providers.
  • Conducted detailed assessments of hundreds of training courses on the DfE approved list.
  • Provided expert moderation, constructive feedback, and impact-focused reporting to providers.
  • Ensured that all courses aligned with the DfE’s outcomes, expectations, and principles of good mental health practice.

This work helped uphold the quality, consistency, and credibility of mental health leadership training offered to schools across the country—and reaffirmed Minds Ahead’s expertise in quality assurance, evaluation, and strategic oversight.

Client: Health Education England (via School Development Support Agency).
Focus: Senior leadership development.
Model: National rollout via cascade model.

Minds Ahead worked with the School Development Support Agency and a range of mental health and education professionals to co-design this two-day programme aimed at senior school leaders.

Designed for national scale, it was funded by Health Education England. Minds Ahead’s contributions included:

  • Designing the full programme structure and materials.
  • Facilitating a ‘Train the Trainer’ workshop to support rollout.
  • Enabling national delivery through a cascade model with the Teaching School Council.
