Mick Atkinson

Mick Atkinson qualified as a Social Worker and has extensive experience of working in the field of children and young people’s mental health. Having worked for 25 years in the public sector, he has managed a number of family centres, a court assessment service and family support units. He has also been responsible for Social Services Planning and Commissioning as well as a Children’s Fund programme.
More recently Mick has managed commissioning relationships with the NHS, Local Authorities and schools as well as a Research and Evaluation unit at a major mental health charity.
Mick is currently Vice Chair of the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Coalition. The Coalition has successfully campaigned for better mental health outcomes for children and produced a important guidance documents for schools. Mick was also a
member of the Department of Health’s Children and Young People’s Mental Health Taskforce, who recently produced “Future in Mind: Promoting, protecting and improving our children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing”. With a particular interest in children’s mental health, policy and public affairs, Mick is an experienced conference speaker.
He addresses national conferences on a regular basis, covering topics ranging from research, commissioning, school behaviour and attendance.
