Carolyn has been a counsellor, trainer, consultant and writer in the field of young people’s mental health for over 20 years. She has worked directly with young people as a detached youth worker, a university counsellor and as a manager of a counselling service for young people in inner London. As Quality Manager for Youth Access she provided consultancy services and training to youth information advice and counselling services nationally. Carolyn led on the design and delivery of a well-received youth counselling training programme, which was accredited at master’s level by the University of East London and rolled out nationally. Carolyn also ran residential training for Place2be postgraduate students on the subject of cultural competence for four years. Carolyn designed and facilitated professional development days for two years for bacp to introduce counsellors to building a coaching approach. She was commissioned to write the e-learning materials for counselling MindEd focusing on counselling young people in community settings and working positively with difference.
Her writing also includes articles in the bacp journals “Counselling Children and Young People” and “Coaching Today”, guest authoring a chapter in Personal Consultancy on supporting young people’s good mental health and future aspirations through an integrated approach.
Carolyn is an experienced clinical Supervisor, an Institute for Leadership and Management qualified Executive Coach and a qualified and registered therapist. She uses the Personal Consultancy framework where an integration of therapeutic and coaching approaches is most likely to benefit her clients. She is a certified Time to Think Facilitator and a qualified MBTI Practitioner.
